The new exhibition Hall of Vicenza’s artistic handicrafts

“The artisan is a person with superior creative gifts. He is very lucky because he can enjoy the healthy and peaceful happiness derived from his job. He has the noble perception of the spirit of his individual freedom. He has the courage to operate and he trusts his ability to produce useful objects that are beautiful per sé and for the society. He embeds in his spirit the heroic urge to act for the common good, something he feels and experiments in the practice by trying again and again.”
(an abstract from a letter sent from Bassano to the Artisans association in 1949)

From the earth to the sky
The visiting tour of ViArt is an ascending movement that leads visitors from the earth and earth-related arts and crafts - made of stone, iron and wood - to both physically and spiritually more elevated handicrafts connected with man, namely gold jewellery, textiles, leather goods. The tour then ends on the noble floor where the lightest and most airy materials have been forged to create handicrafts in ceramics, glass, paper as well as musical instruments.

From raw material to the work of art
Like the tree is the link between the earth and the sky, because it spreads its roots into the ground and raises its crown towards the sky, the artistic craftsman is the link between raw materials and works of art thanks to his geniality and manual dexterity.

A walking tour through the beautiful artistic crafts of the Vicenza province
ViArt, the new exhibition Hall of Vicenza’s artistic handicrafts, is located in the historical centre of the town, close to “Piazza dei Signori”, the very heart of the city. With a surface of almost 300 square meters, on three floors, the works of the best artistic craftsmen of Vicenza and its province can be admired. ViArt, a unique art gallery in the Italian scene because of its exhibiting concept, offers visitors the chance to go on a real journey through the handcrafted products from Vicenza and its surrounding area thereby discovering the wonders that arts, geniality and dexterity of master craftsmen have been able to create.

A prestigious place
ViArt is seated inside the Palazzo del Monte di Pietà, the most ancient building complex to be found in the city nowadays. The monument itself is a summary of cultural and social events dating from the Middle Ages to modern days: It is the ideal and an absolutely prestigious framework for an exhibition that blends history, culture, craftsmanship and arts.

Culture, information, multimedia
ViArt offers visitors didactic support: panels with rich information and audio-visual means describe the world of Vicenza’s artistic crafts from the origins to present day reality, highlighting all the most important aspects, offering indepth examinations and curiosities as well as transmitting some interviews with the most famous master craftsmen.

A place to visit again and again
The peculiarity of ViArt is the rotation that its masterpieces and artisans are given three times a year: renovating the exhibition allows us to show the evolutions that this world, with its long and well articulated traditions, offers.

A shopping opportunity With a few possible exceptions, all ViArt works of art can be purchased on site. A fantastic opportunity to buy unique, original and prestigious handicrafts.

La Sala del Capitolo
(The Chapter Room)
ViArt includes a meeting room with 100 seats, the so-called Chapter Room, that is equipped with a high-tech system. This place is particularly suitable for roundtable debates, cultural meetings, seminars and videoconferences. Upon demand, it can also be used for temporary shows, gala dinners and presentations.

And more...
Upon request, guided tours for groups and school pupils can be arranged. ViArt offers tour operators a reason for organizing tours and trips whose aim is the discovery of the artistic realities of our province.
